usAbout ADCT
Founded by a group of bloggers and enthusiasts involved in digital culture community in 2005, Association of Digital Culture Taiwan (ADCT) aims to promote Web 2.0, citizen media, blog and other internet-borne concepts in Taiwan. ADCT also works to bridge digital divide by providing courses and workshops in remote villages and elementary schools, and encourage internet users to participate in cultural issues.
The current state of Internet culture and the pace of development of its activities are far beyond the imagination of society, not to mention the breadth of related industries and cultural issues that accompany this change. ADCT has recognized the social and cultural changes that have been brought about by Internet information, and are willing to assist and promote such digital cultural activities in order to add value to society, as well as receive more NGO assistance and connect with government resources.
According to the fundamental goals and philosophies, ADCT makes every effort to be the best platform between Taiwan and the international community, as well as engages in Taiwanese digital culture research and development. ADCT is willing to contribute to people's needs in the following major areas: Web 2.0, news, blogs, and the advancement and development of many other digital concepts in Taiwan. It is also our aim to actively create more exchanges with domestic and international organizations and governments. ADCT also cohosts Wikimania 2007 Taipei.
Our Events
Punch Party
Starting from December 2007, Punch Party, organized by Carol Lin, has periodically gathered a group of renowned bloggers to share their experiences, efforts and expectations in Taiwan. As most internet-related seminars and conferences are too long, too serious, and too boring, Punch Party has adopted strict fast-talk rules to every speaker:
1. Only 20 slights can be used in each presentation.
2. Only 20 seconds can be used in each slight.
This creates a quick an efficient way to go through recent changes in blogosphere, as it is always fast-evolving.
In the latter half of each Punch Party, a 30-minute keynote gives audience a deeper look on how people creatively utilize internet and blogs for their causes, in photos, music, clips, and words.
Each event is live broadcasted online via blogs, Twitter, and Yahoo! Live. With beer, coffee, multimedia presentations and interactions, Punch Party has ignited great conversations and exchanges in every occasion. In Punch Party, everyone can be writer, speaker, reader, listener, broadcaster, and most importantly, blogger.
Puncar
In order to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural areas, ADCT initiates Puncar project since May 2008. Puncar, a 10-year-old second-hand car, although can only ride 80-90 kilometers per hour, is equipped with cameras, computers, portable solar panels, and other facilities. To enhance digital literacy in remote villages and tribes, Puncar brings volunteers with digital knowledge and organize training courses in eastern and southern regions in Taiwan. Puncar also sends keyboards and other hardware donated by companies and philanthropists to various disadvantaged communities. We believe everyone, young and old, is entitled to benefit from internet tools and applications, such as Flickr, Twitter, Google map, etc. The power of digital era should not be limited to the privileged, the rich or the advantaged, but to the general public. For further details, volunteering, donation and future cooperation, please contact us via adct.npo@gmail.com.
Birds of a Feather (BoF)
Since 2005, Taiwan Bloggers BoF conference has developed into the biggest blog-related annual event in Taiwan. As an event by bloggers for bloggers, ADCT takes over organizing works since 2007. Each year in the event, blog- and internet-related issues are wildly discussed and exchanged, including citizen journalism, charity, social movements, venture capital, digital culture, and marketing. Startups are also showcased in the venue to exhibit diversity in local blogosphere. BoF has also invited experts from Hong Kong, China, Japan, and South Korea to share their experiences with local practitioners. Fully utilizing internet potential, the event is live broadcasted and recorded via Twitter, blogs, videos, etc.
Forum of Digital Cities
As Taipei is vying to build a wireless broadband city, how to incorporate internet into daily life has become a popular topic. With digital policy and wireless penetration are now important benchmarks for city development, ADCT organizes the Forum as an opportunity for discussion and exchange, inviting experts and practitioners from Europe and Asia to share experiences on topics such as citizen journalism, WiMax mobile, SNS communities and other applications.
